Happy Friday! For those of you that don't know me...my husband owns a weightlifting gym (4 Star Strength in Livonia, MI). So you'd think I'd work out all the time, right? Well, let's just say I haven't worked out at his gym in about a year (yikes!). And here's why...
Before I got married, I was super active and even did a sprint triathlon a month or so before. Got married...and life got busy. I had just started a new job and shortly after I launched Kiloh & Co.! So I pretty much went from work at my day job to work at home. I also had a busy summer with showers, weddings, and all that other fun stuff. Those just sound like excuses to most people...and they are. Any down time I had, I wanted to relax or play with my two dogs. The last thing I wanted to do was go to the gym and workout.
But what I've realized this last year is how much more anxiety and a huge lack of energy I have. To me, a direct result of not making time for myself. Not working out, not eating right. I think A LOT of us entrepreneurs and small business owners tend to put our businesses first. One of the first things to go is making sure we keep ourselves healthy (and sane!). It's SO hard to find that balance, but I think it's crucial to have a healthy body and mind in order to be successful in the long term.
I've been helping out and working for a wedding planner this year (another venture of mine!) and one of the things she started doing this year is scheduling her workouts ahead of time each week. It's in her calendar and she treats it just like a meeting, therefore it actually happens. She doesn't find an "excuse" not to go. So I'm going to do just that. I'm going to start scheduling an hour just three times a week to start. This way it's on the books and more likely to happen.
We'll see how the first few weeks go, but I'm determined to get back into the habit. I'm also signing up for my first duathlon (run, bike, run) this June, to give me something to work toward. I really think making time for yourself ultimately makes you a happier and more productive person at work. What are you doing to make time for yourself? I'd love to hear!
